BSF project completed in Walthamstow at Frederick Bremer School

September 2008 saw the opening of Frederick Bremer School in Walthamstow, North East London. The three-storey school  brings together two previously existing schools, Aveling Park and Warwick Boys School into a single state of the art school.

Built on the previous Hawker Siddely factory site the £20m construction project to build a new Private Finance Initiative (PFI) school will benefit people in the community as well as school pupils. The new school includes a fully stocked library, a multi-use sports hall, a lecture theatre, a recording studio, a sound proofed practice room and a first class drama area.

The school was developed under the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) initiative which will see £45 billion directed towards the redevelopment of schools during its anticipated 15 year lifespan. Bremer school comes under the Walthamstow schools wave of development of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) initiative.

Stuart Graham from Clarity in Sound, Light & Vision Limited designed the sound, lighting, audio visual and staging equipment for the new school and commented ‘it is fantastic to see the designs embraced in such an exciting project as Frederick Bremer school, due to its modern, upbeat design.'

‘Technically this project was quite complex and required careful planning and execution. I am delighted that our project management team worked harmoniously alongside the main building contractors to ensure that everything was installed and delivered on time. With a project of this scale requiring so many different disciplines, I wanted to ensure that we did not let the main contractors down by not being ready for the school's opening, and I am pleased to report that the whole team pulled together to ensure that everything was in place well in advance of the official handover and opening of the new school’

The sound system in the school hall utilised a Soundcraft mixing desk, QSC amplification to the loudspeakers, a high quality Denon CD player, Shure microphones and a Techpro talkback system for the stage technicians. The theatrical lighting system, shown in the image to the right, highlights some of the comprehensive theatrical lighting system installed in the new school hall where Selecon lanterns with ANYtronics Contractor dimming packs were used.
